Photorejuvenation
Your skin CAN look younger, healthier, and smoother!

Aging / Sun Damage

75% of what is considered signs of aging is actually signs of sun damage. Since you were a child, you were exposed to the sun - and 20 to 30 years later is when you first notice the consequence.

Aging is not limited to just the surface of the skin. Time and photo (sun) damage take a toll upon each layer of our skin and supportive tissues. Diminished sebum production creates a dull, lifeless and perhaps discolored appearance with little fine wrinkle lines. The crumbling collagen and elastic fibers leads to further wrinkle formation, sagging, and increased bruising and overall skin fragility often leading to a sunken, tired appearance.

Rosacea is an extremely common complexion disorder characterized by facial redness, flushing of the nose, cheeks, forehead, chin and neck, dilated capillaries and occasionally acne-like outbreaks, eye irritation, mild itching or burning. Symptoms can be exacerbated by heat, cold, alcohol, sun exposure, certain foods and exercise. Rosacea affects as many as 13 million Americans generally over the age of thirty. When it first develops, rosacea may come and go on its own. The condition rarely reverses itself and lasts for years - and can become worse without treatment.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) improves your skin's appearance through the use of light and thermal energy. It addresses brown spots (pigmented imperfections) from age and sun exposure, red blotching from spider veins or rosacea (vascular imperfections), and rough porous skin texture.

The IPL Photofacial is the ideal treatment for active patients who don't want to take time off for healing from other therapies such as laser skin resurfacing, surgery, and chemical peels.
  • Patients observe smoother skin with notable visible improvement in irregular pigmentation and fine wrinkles. Sun spots initially darken, then decrease and disappear.
  • Skin biopsies of PhotoFacial patients reveal collagen regeneration and reorganization in the skin, bringing back youthful skin elasticity.
  • Flushing, redness and symptoms of rosacea improve on average more than 80%-95% percent following treatments.
  • Each treatment takes about 30 minutes. Patients are able to return to full activities immediately after treatments (no down-time).
  • You may no longer need to wear makeup to camouflage skin blemishes and discoloration. This will be especially true if you elect to follow your IPL treatment with regular use of the Obagi skin care line.
Any area can be treated except for that immediately adjacent to the eye.
A series of 3 to 5 sessions (spaced 4 weeks apart) is most effective to provide a gradual, progressive improvement with excellent long term results. Dr. Gazzara uses the Starlux IPL/Laser system by Palomar, an industry leader in the field of light based treatment for more than a decade.
